Ceri Griffiths, from Rhydargaeau, a member of Carmarthen Judo Club, old Llangunnor Road, was recently presented with full University Colours for his achievements in representing his University at national level in judo.

He is presently completing his final year at the University, reading Sports Science, and was presented with his citation at the annual sports federation dinner held in Eastbourne East Sussex.

The award is presented to those elite athletes who have represented the British Universities or home nations.

Only seven such awards were made at this year’s ceremony and is the first time it has been awarded for any judo competitor.

Ceri recently represented the British Universities against the British Police and hopes for selection to the British Team attending the World Student Games being held in Prague later this year. He has already win the British under 21 title and is currently listed as number 3 in the British senior ranking tables.

Ceri thanked Carmarthen Judo Club for their continued support and said “Carmarthen has a superb dojo (training hall) in Old Llangunnor Road as well as excellent coaches. I have no doubt there are other competitors in the club that can and will achieve further honours.”
