Nia Davies and Georgia Coverdale have been successful in gaining their Welsh Judo Association purple belts with Carmarthen Judo Club. Both these young ladies have had to become proficient in the techniques of Judo and learning the names of various holds and throws in Japanese. They were tested at the Club's new dojo (training hall) at the leisure centre, Johnstown, by a Welsh Judo Association trained coach and came through with flying colours. Under 8 years of age competitive judo is not allowed by the Association and they have devised, with British Judo, a scheme whereby these youngsters can get their mons (stripes) towards their purple belts. Louise Beard, club coach, said "These young ladies are part of a growing number within the club who have become proficient and gained their purple belt. They did their tests to a high standard and they should be proud of themselves."
