A small team from Carmarthen Judo Club attended a major tournament in Welshpool, Powys on the 11th of June 2011.

The North Wales Open judo championships were well attended by teams from all over the United Kingdom. Within these teams there were many National Champions and medallists.

The seven strong team from Carmarthen returned with a fantastic haul of six medals. The fighters were Indeg Crane in the under 12 year - 48 kilogramme category after reaching the final she took the silver medal. Greg Cotter in the under 12 year - 38 kilogramme category he achieved a very creditable bronze, Aled Beynon in the under 12 year - 30 kilogramme category reached the final and took the Silver medal, Anthony Jenkins in the under 12 year - 38 kilogramme category also reached a final to get the silver medal, Edward Bennett in the under 12 year - 34 kilogramme category also made the final and took back to Carmarthen a silver medal, Josh Richards in the under 16 year - 50 kilogramme category didn't reach the medal podium on this occasion taking the fifth place. The only senior fighting was Emma Jones in the under 57 kilogramme weight group had a good day where she fought her way to the final and brought home a silver medal.

Their coaches were at the competition supporting the fighters and Louise BEARD, one of coaches said "This is a very good result for these young people who train hard and have fun. There are many others in the Club, at the Leisure Centre, Johnstown, who will, in time, achieve other good results."
