Catrin Davies, a pupil at Ysgol Bro Myrddin, fought at these Championships as the sole representative from Carmarthen. Catrin trains with Carmarthen Judo Club at their dojo (training hall) in the leisure centre at Johnstown and is a previous British medallist and Champion at different weight groups and ages.
These Championships were a magnet for all the young judo fighters in the United Kingdom. Those attending included English, Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish National Champions and medallists. In addition there were last year’s winners and members of all the National squads.
This was a very tough championship to start 2012's round of events for school pupils. Catrin was in the Year 12-13 category and fought exceptionally well in her first set of fights to gain a place in the final rounds. She then went on to fight through to the final itself.
This proved to be a massive bout with both girls trying everything to get a score of some kind. However, with the bout coming to an end, Catrin was caught and had a small score against her.
With her usual grit and determination she fought on to the end but, on this occasion, narrowly missed out on bringing the British Title back to Carmarthen.
Catrin was delighted with her performance in gaining a silver medal and was congratulated by her coaches who travelled to the event.
Louise Beard, Carmarthen's highly qualified head coach said "This was an outstanding performance and shows what some skill, backed by grit and determination, can do. Catrin is one of a few at the Judo Club who have the ability to continue to bring titles and medals back to Carmarthen."
Catrin would like to thank Ysgol Bro Myrddin for continuing to support her Judo fighting.
