CJC new dojo plans.
Source : Geoff Griffiths, Wednesday, March 01, 2006.
This year Carmarthen Judo Club is in discussion with the local authority and grant providers to build a new Dojo at the rear of Carmarthen County Council's Leisure Centre in Johnstown.
We have had to reduce the size of the dojo due to cost. Our first plan has been estimated to cost a whopping £1.5 million. The second line of attack has been to reduce the training area to make the project feasible. We are hoping to build a dojo which will have two mat areas giving us a total matted area of 28 meters by 14 meters.
We are hoping to have a movable central wall so that the mat area can be divided so that two clubs can train at the same time. These plans are being finalized by a very kind structural engineer before final costing and plans being produced.
The discussion and liaison with the Local Authority is being carried out by a very kind “financial consultant”. The sketches of what we hope to produce will be placed on the site when we get them.
We will try and keep you abreast of all the developments as they happen.
I would like to thank one of the mums – she wishes to remain anon. – for donating £55.00 after a small fund raiser so that we can “buy a few bricks.”
IF A CORPORATE SPONSOR OR ADVERTISER WISHES TO ENTER INTO DISCUSSION WITH THE CLUB REGARDING A POSSIBLE DONATION AND WHAT IT COULD MEAN FOR THEIR PROFILE IN THE CARMARTHEN AREA PLEASE CONTACT THE CLUB SECRETARY.
CURRENT USAGE OF OUR PREMISES STANDS AT OVER 10,000 THIS WILL INCREASE TO AN ESTIMATED 15,000 IN THE FIRST 18MONTHS OF OPENING A NEW DOJO AND 25,000 USERS IS A CURRENT ACHIEVABLE GOAL WITHIN 5 YEARS. THESE FIGURES ARE FOR USERS NOT PERSONS ATTENDING THE CLUB e.g. users will normally have others attend and wait giving the Club a higher profile throughout the area.
